Soaked to the Bone and Chased by a Deer
Rain Walk, Deer Drama, and a Very Happy Dog
Today’s walk was one of those soaked right through adventures where the rain doesn’t just fall — it commits. Dixie and I stepped out anyway, because that’s what we do. By the time we were halfway down the street, my clothes were glued to me and Dixie looked like a wet mop with legs. She loved every second of it.
When we got home later, I gave her a full towel rub‑down and she melted into it like it was a spa day. Tail wagging, leaning into the towel, eyes half‑closed — pure bliss. Honestly, it was the highlight of her day.
Before that, though, we swung by the Mormon church for dog dirt duty. Except Dixie decided to save her business for the city instead, so I ended up tossing it in the public bin. Efficient, I guess.
But the real chaos started in the church parking lot.
A mother deer — full of adrenaline, nerves, and whatever spiritual energy hangs around religious buildings — decided we were a threat. She didn’t just posture. She charged. Not once. Not twice. For a solid five minutes this deer kept coming at us, hooves ready, eyes locked. Total mayhem.
I kept Dixie tight on a short leash the whole time. If she’d had any extra room, that deer would’ve trampled her without hesitation. And honestly, I don’t need a lifetime of trauma responses every time a deer pops out of a coulee. Once is enough.
We held our ground, stayed calm, and eventually the deer backed off. Imperfect people in imperfect places — and apparently imperfect deer too.
After that, the rest of the walk felt easy. Rain dripping off my hat, Dixie trotting beside me like nothing happened. Short walk, but an awesome one. The kind that reminds you you’re alive, even if you’re soaked and dodging wildlife.
Another day, another story.

went for a walk in the rain with the dg got completely wet. rubbed down the dog with a towel and she loved it. we went by the moron church to do dog dirt duty. but she saved it for the city and i put it in the bin. theere was a mother deer chasing us while we walked in the church paring lot. cause all religious places are choas with imperfect people in imperfect places. and this deer charged us not once or twice but for 5 minutes. i kept dixie close to me cause i think if it had enough of a long leash she would have trampled dixie. and id hope not to have those trauma reactions every time a deer comes by. and the post tramadic stress from the attack lasting ever and ever. i decided to keep a short leash. all work short. awesome walk. write me a blog post for today
