From Garlic Thieves to Fountain Smiles: 5.2 Walk

Walk with my dad on 911

This week gifted me something rare and beautiful—three walks with my parents, the first since spring. One morning, my dad pointed out fences meant to keep deer from feasting on his flowers, lamenting how they’ve been nibbling his onions while birds sneak off with his garlic.

We crossed a bridge under the sun, and I found myself quietly soaking in the moment, realizing how these small exchanges become lasting memories. There’s a kind of love in simply walking side by side, listening, noticing. Today, I’m hoping to share that same warmth with my father-in-law—another walk, another chance to connect.

This morning greeted me with a crisp +12°C breeze—perfect walking weather. I clocked just over an hour on foot, covering 5.2 km and burning 627 calories, though I forgot to stop my watch for five minutes once I got home (classic move). Most of the walk kept me in the easy heart rate zone, with just under five minutes warming up. I kicked off the day right with a bowl of cottage cheese, chased down with ice water—simple, satisfying, and exactly what I needed. These small rituals, like morning walks and mindful meals, are starting to feel like anchors in my day.

This morning’s walk was one for the books. I threw on my fire control shirt and headed out around 9:30—perfect timing with the weather sitting comfortably at +12°C. I walked for an hour, splitting the time between sharing steps with my dad and soaking in the quiet solo. Back at home, I snapped a photo with my rucker weight, a little ritual that marks the effort and reminds me how far I’ve come. These are the kinds of days I live for: when the temperature cooperates, the company is good, and the rhythm of the walk feels just right.

This morning’s walk was a mix of motion and memory. I didn’t take many photos—my dad laid down the law: “Either take them while we’re walking or not at all.” Fair enough. The dog’s frequent sniff-stops didn’t help the pace, but that’s the charm of off-leash walks: freedom to explore, pause, and just be. Our time together was cut a bit short—he had to hit the gym and then head to the gun club to water trees, a task he’s taken seriously to help them thrive for years to come. We ended at the fountain, where I snapped the last photo of the walk with him. That image holds more than just a moment—it’s a memory of connection, of shared steps, and of a morning that felt quietly special.

Plus 4 Celsius 6.1 km in a hour 🏃‍♂️

Dixie and I go for a run  🏃‍♂️ Dixie and I go for a run, redo a hill run down and up again. Kim picks me up after I climb the hill, I called her and asked since I was over my hour mark, originally I wanted to do 9 km in an hour but I managed to do six km instead.  I think it was the hill climb that did it.  I ran fully down hill no problem 😌 We made good time.  For a hill run 🏃‍♂️   It looks like it will be 13 Celsius by noon but it feels warmer in the sun. ☀️  I took a picture by the usual spot that judge where the river is from other years and with that rain the last couple days it definitely looks a lot better than what it was a few weeks ago Dixie went off leash for a bit and went to the river. Must’ve been cold. I think for April water dip. I managed to bring my VO2 max up to good 😊 today, it’s the first time I’ve put it in the green since owning my second Garmin. So my goal right now is to get an endurance score over 5099 To move past ...

Plus 12 Celsius Smoke run 🏃‍♂️

The dog and I decided to do either a 3 km run or a 6 km run or 9 km run hoping for 10 km but I couldn’t find the energy to push further. It is smoky out there you could smell it and breath it in. Made me in my threshold if I keep a higher pace than 9 minutes km Cooler morning,  I went and got a sausage homestyle biscuit from Tim’s and an ice coffee ☕️  Just getting my day started. I got a doctors appointment later today over the phone 📞 also. Hoping to take the dog 🐕 for a run 🏃‍♂️ this morning but I’m stiff. So hopefully my coffee stop warms me up to get moving this morning. Or just caffeinates me. We managed to do 6.05 km in about 59 minutes. A high heart rate of 172 bpm and an average of 144 bpm. Plus 12 Celsius while I ran but I was in full sweating 😅 by the time I got home 🏡. The last couple weeks I’ve had a low relative effort due to some family losses. But I manage to get out on a smoky day like today for a run. 🏃‍♂️  It’s been raining heavily the last...

A fawn born on our yard

A baby fawn was born on our lawn and it’s trying to warm up in the asphalt I’m guessing it’s still warm. We’re trying to give it space hopefully it mother comes by so we’re staying inside. I just went outside for a smoke and it crawled under the vehicle 🚗 lots of people are walking by it not noticing it then others are stopping.  Quite the thing to see. A few hours old… it’s still wet with mucus on it. With Kim’s super camera zoom is we could see Fish and wild life say to call in 24 hours if animals are left by moms  So we’re hoping people leave the fawn alone.  Although it’s a super cool 😎 thing to see. I think it hoofs are still soft from being born that’s why it’s staying put since it went on that hard surface till it’s hoofs Harden. It crawled on its knees after the side walk and just hunkered down for a bit. Two hours from first spotting.  Still there hiding under the vehicle 🚗 it kind of a good spot of course there’s better picked spots but it’s half and hal...
