Budding Trees and Relaxed Steps on a Warm April Day

April 20th – Warm Weather, Good Company, and a Quiet Dog at Home

Today was one of those spring days that just settles into your bones in the best way. Dad, Dixie, and I headed out for a walk, and even with the 20 kg (45 lb) pack on my back, we kept a solid pace. The forecast said we’d hit 24°C, and you could feel that warmth building as we moved. By the time we finished, I was comfortable enough to switch into shorts — a rare treat this early in the season.

We covered 3.77 km, and at one point I took a break by the pond, sitting for about ten minutes while waiting for my walking friend. The water was calm, the air warm, and it felt like the whole world was taking a breath with me. My heart rate topped out at 134 bpm, averaging 115 bpm, mostly in the easy zone with a bit of warm‑up zone mixed in thanks to that peaceful pause by the water.

Dad made a comment that stuck with me — “One more rain and the leaves will just pop open.” He’s right. You can already see the buds swelling, and some trees are starting to show that early green haze. Spring is right on the edge of bursting.

Back at home, Dixie has been surprisingly quiet. The construction crew is still working on the property, running new internet lines, and normally she’d be barking at every sound. But today she’s calm, probably still content from the ham bone we gave her last night. At one point she paused mid‑chew, looked up at me with that soft, grateful stare dogs do — the kind that says everything without a sound.

I also realized I never blogged about the walk with Bryan the other day, right before the April storm rolled in. One of the last nice days before the snow hit. Life got busy, and the post slipped away, but it was a good walk and worth remembering. I’ll share a video clip from today to make up for it.

Hope everyone is getting outside while the weather cooperates. These spring days — not too hot, not too cold — are the sweet spot. Enjoy them while they last.

As you watch the clip, see if you can spot a few things along the way — the pair of geese relaxing by the pond, the deer quietly crossing the path, and of course Dixie trotting along doing her thing. It’s one of those videos where the small details make the walk feel alive, so keep an eye out as it plays. I want to include a moment from today’s walk with my dad as well. It was warm, calm, and one of those early‑spring days where everything feels like it’s waking up at once. We kept a steady pace with the pack weight, talked about the trees getting ready to burst into green, and just enjoyed the weather while it lasted. The clip from our walk plays next just above.

Before I wrap up this post, I wanted to share one more moment from earlier this month — a walk with Bryan just before that April storm rolled in. It was one of those last calm, mild days before the weather turned, and we made the most of it. I didn’t get a chance to blog it at the time, but the clip fits perfectly here, carrying the same spring energy and easy pace. The video of that walk with Bryan plays next.

Celebrating Ten Years and Living My Best Life🧘‍♂️ A Quiet Day at Home

πŸŽ‰ Celebrating 10 Years Together Last night was a beautiful celebration of a decade spent with Kim. We marked our 10-year anniversary with a cozy dinner at The Keg, where I indulged in a hearty 20 oz steak and Kim opted for a more modest 8 oz cut. It felt so good to get out together and enjoy a special evening. We kept things simple—just water to drink, with fresh bread and salad to start. The atmosphere was perfect, and I soaked in every moment of our time together. We’re incredibly grateful for our families, who made the night even more special. My parents generously gave us cash to enjoy our dinner, and Kim’s parents gifted us movie money so we could extend the celebration. Their thoughtfulness reminded us how lucky we are to be surrounded by love and support. Family and friends made it sweeter We were so blessed by our families: my parents gave us cash to enjoy the night and Kim’s parents sent money for a movie treat. Our friends even gifted us a 20% tip card for the meal...

Gratitude, Good Food, and Good Books

A Thanksgiving weekend of family meals, long walks, and reaching 86 books this year Bryan and I headed out for a walk after he returned from his sister’s Thanksgiving gathering, settling into a steady 30‑minute pace that carried us just under 2 km. The air was crisp with a light breeze, the kind of weather that makes movement feel effortless. I’ve always loved these cooler temperatures—my body doesn’t have to work as hard, and the transition from “easy mode” into a gentle warm‑up felt natural. Carrying 30 pounds with me added that extra layer of challenge, but it blended seamlessly into the rhythm of the walk. We paused at a park bench along the way, taking a moment to sit together before snapping a photo. That small break reminded me how these walks are as much about connection as they are about distance or weight carried. The combination of fresh air, conversation, and the grounding presence of the season made the outing feel restorative. It wasn’t just a walk—it was a reminder...

Plus 4 Celsius 6.1 km in a hour πŸƒ‍♂️

Dixie and I go for a run  πŸƒ‍♂️ Dixie and I go for a run, redo a hill run down and up again. Kim picks me up after I climb the hill, I called her and asked since I was over my hour mark, originally I wanted to do 9 km in an hour but I managed to do six km instead.  I think it was the hill climb that did it.  I ran fully down hill no problem 😌 We made good time.  For a hill run πŸƒ‍♂️   It looks like it will be 13 Celsius by noon but it feels warmer in the sun. ☀️  I took a picture by the usual spot that judge where the river is from other years and with that rain the last couple days it definitely looks a lot better than what it was a few weeks ago Dixie went off leash for a bit and went to the river. Must’ve been cold. I think for April water dip. I managed to bring my VO2 max up to good 😊 today, it’s the first time I’ve put it in the green since owning my second Garmin. So my goal right now is to get an endurance score over 5099 To move past ...
